The house

Official Family Crest is a small workshop that paints and prints decorative family crests. The office is kept short on purpose. A few people review the work, write in plain language, and treat every order as artwork for a household, not as a legal file.
A letter arrives with a household name and, sometimes, a story about an older coat. Staff may read published sources that actually exist: college pages, Lyon’s notes, American rolls, and the books on our shelves. Those sources can be thin, copied, or wrong. Then a crest is painted for that household and printed in the form you chose from the catalog. The painting is art, including when the record is missing and the design is invented.
We are not a college of arms. We do not grant arms, and we do not sell “the Williams crest” or “the Murphy arms” as if a surname were a title. That mistake is common on the internet. It is not how this house works. The notes on crest and coat say the same thing at greater length.
We will not tell you that every family has an official crest waiting in a vault. We will not stamp a design with a seal that looks like a government grant. If the sources are thin, we say they are thin, and we still prepare artwork you can keep, labeled as artwork. The terms and conditions say this at full length.
The staff is small: research, painting, and the desk that answers mail. The same people who write the blog handle the commissions. There is no separate marketing room and no script. If a question is outside our records, we say so.
Letters go to the contact page. Printed pieces, with prices, are in the catalog. The refund policy covers work that arrives damaged or does not match what you ordered.
